Update on Great White shark in Langebaan Lagoon

The national NSRI search for the rogue Great White in Shark Bay paid off late last night when the tagged predator was spotted some 850 km from Langebaan in the vicinity of Port Elizabeth.

A spokesperson for president Jacob Zuma’s newly established SA Marine Intelligence Services, Mr April Foolisha, said the shark, dubbed Gupta, is most likely en route to Durban, near Nkandla, to take up its position in the newly reshuffled Treasury department. Its brief visit to Langebaan’s waters was allegedly connected to military activities at Donkergat.

Meanwhile, the three kite board surfers from Germany and Australia who had a close encounter with Gupta early yesterday morning in Shark Bay, recovered completely from the initial shock and trauma.

Bjorn Zentner (left on the picture) and Carl van Aswegen were back in the surf late afternoon, stating:
“We wisened up quickly to the African ways to expect a shark at every turn!”

Read the full April Fool story (link at the bottom) and remember – there are always sharks in the sea – they belong there! – and for those overtly sensitive, humorless readers – there has never been a reported Great White shark attack in the Langebaan Lagoon. The lagoon is quite safe for responsible humans, but are humans safe for the lagoon? It’s the lagoon and its natural inhabitants that are currently under enormous threat from destructive human activities . . . not the other way round! 🙂
