WHAT A WELCOME SIGHT – A FAINT LIGHT IN THE SANDY TUNNEL

pade4At last! An entrance with a sign board to the beleaguered shops in Oostewal Road was this morning one of the most welcoming sights in a long time to greet shop owners who were completely cut off from the main traffic for the last few months.

Although clients still have to climb over kerbs and sand ditches to access the shop entrances, they can at least park their cars close by. Road works along Oostewal Street is continuing at a noticeably faster pace to ensure that both lanes will hopefully be open to traffic before the December rush.

And guess who were among the first customers to support the Curry Den today after the new entrance and parking area was made? No other than Mr Goolam Rooknodien and fellow-engineers of Nadeson Consulting Services!

* The pregnant silence between shop owners and the Saldanha Bay Municipality is bound to leave stretch marks before the birth of a head-on collision. The SBM has not given any indication yet whether they are prepared to compensate the shop owners for their loss of income and inconvenience due to the poorly planned road construction which forced some of them to close their doors for weeks. Yesterday, before the entrance was made, most of the shops were closed as there was no way to access them.
