The outpouring of emotion on social media following the news of the tragic freak accident that claimed Alvin’s life last Saturday morning on the notorious Vredenburg/Saldanha road, is testimony to the love, respect and passion this young man inspired in others.

Facebook was flooded with sorrowful messages, touching tributes and sympathetic support to his family from friends and co-riders from all over the country and abroad.

Alvin’s sister, Natasha Farmer, who lives in Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates, confirmed via FB that the funeral proceedings will take place on Saturday morning from 08:00 at the family home in 1049 Keerom Street, Concordia, where loved ones can say their final farewells at a viewing, followed by a service at 9:30 at the Concordia Community Centre (Bloudak-saal) before the Namaqua Riders will lead the way to his final resting place.

Alvin, an experienced and passionate biker and beloved member of the Namaqua Riders Motorcycle Club, apparently participated in the Lee Riders Club’s annual West Coast Rally in Saldanha Bay last weekend.
He was in a group on their way to have breakfast in Vredenburg when he lost control and spun off the road near Scott’s Nurseries. The incident was described as a “freak accident” by Police Officers as speed was not a factor. Sand and dust on the median of the road could have spun the front wheel, causing him to lose control and hit a tree. His body was found 8 m from where he fell off the bike after hitting the tree.

Alvin leaves behind his mother, Nicohlene Farmer Cloete and her husband, Johan Cloete,  sister Natasha Farmer and brother Angelo Cloete.

The following FB messages from friends and loved ones describe it best:

Namaqua Riders MCC:  The Namaqua Riders would like to Thank the Chariots of Fire, the CMA Riders and all other bikers who prayed with and for our beloved Vellas and Family..
This quotation was Vellas’s Last Facebook status on route to Rally.

It was and is a Great Honor to call Vellas a Namaqua Brother.”
